The Teesside Valley Mohawks pulled off an emphatic 87-71 win in their D2 Playoff quarter-final match against Bath Basketball.

The game was close through the first two quarters. Tees Valley narrowly leading 39-38. Guards Cam Schainfield and Alfie Merifield combined for 24 points in the second half to secure the victory on Teesside.

Kofi Amo-Agyei was the top performer for Bath, he had 21 points. With 15 of those coming in the first half. His energy levels seemes to taper off however as he scored a more modest 6 points in the second half.

Tees Valley Mohawks will face Gloucester City Kings at Gloucester. Date and time of the game TBC.

Tees Valley Mohawks guard, Cam Schainfield said: "I Feel good, just blessed. My teammates played really well. I had an okay game, but they picked me up and we ended up getting the win. We are ready for the semi-finals now."

Cam said he "off a bit slow" but as he got into the game he started to pick up. He described his third quarter performance as "pretty big" and that he got 'hot' in terms of his scoring. He credited his teammates for frequently passing him the ball, which allowed him to find his rhythm.

"We feel good. We have to approach every game the same way, with respect to the opponent. We know that everything depends on us; we are the ones who will win or lose depending on our performance. We’re just trying to stay strong, practice hard, and do what we have done all season."

Tees Valley Mohawks manager and chairman, Steve Butler said: "I'm really pleased. The guys dug it out. We struggled in the first half, especially the first quarter, but we got it out in the second half and extended the lead to 10. We were comfortable from the end of the third quarter into the fourth, so I'm really pleased with how we adapted.

"Cam (Schainfield) can light it up in pretty much any quarter. He struggled with the team in the first half, so we rested him a little bit so he could come out in the third and take over the game, which he did. Also, Alfie Merifield hit some big shots which extended that lead. He gets points really quickly, which is an added bonus for us.

"We're looking forward to the semi-final. I've just been told that we will be playing Gloucester City Kings, so we will be traveling down to play them soon. It'll be a tough test, but the guys will be up for it and hopefully we can get the job done."
