On Saturday we had two big Durham County Cup finals games for both Men and Women. Tees Valley Mohawks teams made up both finals where Tees Valley Mohawks Pinks took on Newcastle Lady Griffins and Tees Valley Mohawks A played East Durham Lions.

Tees Valley Mohawks Pink came out on top, beating the Lady Griffins 78-53. Tees Valley Mohawks A finished as runners-up in their game, narrowly losing 79-76 to East Durham Lions.

Steve Butler coached both Tees Valley Mohawks teams, on the Mohawks Pink victory, Butler said: "Really pleased for the girls. They thoroughly deserve it. There were some scrappy bits, but overall we were the better team."

The double is also the 4th consecutive season the Pinks have done the feat, something Butler described as an "outstanding" achievement.

On finishing runners-up with the Mohawks A, Butler said: "It was a very good game. Both teams played exceptionally well. We knew it was going to be close all the way through". Butler also added how he was "proud" of the effort shown and that the loss was down to "bad" decision making in "crucial" moments, in a game of tight margins.

In both games, Tees Valley Mohawks players won the Cup final MVP. For the Mohawks Pink, Abigail Lowe won after a 30-point performance. Manager Steve Butler described her as a "phenomenal player", while teammate Jade Walton said she is 'amazing' and an intelligent player.

For Tees Valley Mohawks A, Daniel Kelsey won the Cup final MVP, scoring 25 points. He described winning the award as 'bittersweet'. He said: "I’d rather the team get the win, but it’s nice to get recognised for what I’ve done."
